There was jubiliation in Enugu following the opening of the Akanu Ibiam international Airport. The Airport which has been closed down since 2019 for rehabilitation was officially opened by the Minister of aviation who represented the president on 31 August 2020.
The event drew down so many politicians and captains of industries as well as well wishers to Enugu state to withness a test flight in the rehabilitated Airport.
However some weeks to the reopening date, there were some notable events that occurred in the state which at sometimes looked engineered to distract the good news coming to the state and some other time it looked manipulative.
The media pewce was distributed on August 14 2020 when Mr JJ Emejulu alleged that the Governor of Enugu state, Chief Lawrence Ugwuanyi was after his life to take over his large expanse of land known as the Airport Road layout phase IV and V Emene.
In his allegations, he claimed that the land which measures over 400 plots was bought by him from umuenwene Nike, Enugu East local government area, Enugu State and the Governor is after his life to terminate his life to take over the land.
Though this claims might sound convincing but it is very wrong of a man to lay accusations on a living man because time will reveal the hidden truth. I am not here to say that the court judgements on the land are false rather I am here to make it clear that that our peace loving Governor is clearly out of the picture.
Firstly, according to Hon. Cornelius Nnaji, "the Emejulu's High court Judgement is fraught with lies and bad faith. And will be set aside."
The Honourable representing Enugu East and Isi Uzo at the green chambers maintained that Emejulu is a litigant in the ongoing law suit No. E/642/2016 adjourned, after the last hearing date in Court 6, Enugu High Court, to September 21, 2020 on a subject matter similar in every material particular surreptitiously approached another court in Enugu State for a motion ex parte to invade or ‘execute’ judgment in the location of interest.
He maintained that “The flaw and huge error in
that judgment/execution is that Emejulu concealed from the judge and executing authority that, has now been clearly proven by the Ministry of Lands and Survey of Enugu State that his purported Airport Road Layout Phases IV and V, have no locational relationship to the area of the present renovation of Akanu Ibiam International Airport. Hence the criminality of his intent and actions are self-evident.”
Also as you can see from the above statement of the Honourable, the matter is between the federal government (not Enugu State) and Emejulu.
Away from the distractions the Governor after the commission of the Airport for use headed to the Airport roundabout where he commisioned an artifact in memory of the passengers who lost their lives during a flight from Lagos to Enugu.
