The Nkanu Youth Organization (NYO), the umbrella youth body of Enugu East Senatorial District, has reaffirmed its unflinching support for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah while issuing a stern warning to detractors seeking to discredit his administration.
The declaration came in response to a press statement, circulated on September 26, falsely attributed to the NYO. The National Executive Committee (EXCO) and Board of Trustees (BOT) of the organization dismissed the statement as a politically motivated fabrication intended to undermine the governor’s transformative leadership.
Speaking through its leadership, which includes National Vice President Pharm. Onyedikachi Gideon Nwafor, National Secretary Ugwu Chukwuemerie Padrepew, National PRO Humphrey Ede , National Organizing Secretary Ejims Chinedum, Pioneer President Hon. Edeani M. Edeani JP, and BOT Chairman Hon. Chinedu Mbah, the NYO described the release as unconstitutional and a gross misrepresentation of the collective will of Nkanu youths. They alleged that opposition proxies orchestrated the statement to sow discord and tarnish Dr. Mbah’s globally recognized achievements.
The controversy stemmed from a planned September 26 press conference intended to promote voter sensitization and foster dialogue with the governor. According to the EXCO, rogue elements hijacked the agenda and released an unauthorized statement that accused the government of “multiple taxation” and “zero empathy.” The EXCO swiftly distanced itself, condemning the use of disrespectful language such as referring to Dr. Mbah as “Mr. Governor.”
Reiterating its confidence in the governor, the NYO highlighted key initiatives under Dr. Mbah’s administration. These include the Human Capital Development Council, launched in May 2025 to train one million youths in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data science through partnerships with 170 European universities. The organization also pointed to strategic youth appointments as evidence of the governor’s commitment to empowering Nkanu youths.
Additional achievements cited were a ₦23 million scholarship for 17-year-old Israel Echezona to pursue pilot training, the allocation of 33 percent of the state budget to 260 tech-driven Smart Green Schools, and wide-ranging infrastructure investments powered by fiscal reforms. Under the 2024 Enugu State Internal Revenue Service Bill, tax collection was digitized and duplicative levies eliminated, growing revenue from ₦37.4 billion in 2023 to ₦144.7 billion by September 2024. These reforms, praised by President Bola Tinubu during a January 2025 visit, have funded over 1,000 kilometers of new roads, AI-enabled security systems, water projects, and 260 Smart Farm Estates.
On the allegation of “premature endorsements,” the NYO clarified that its support for Dr. Mbah is not partisan but rooted in his achievements, notably ending the Monday sit-at-home order and revitalizing the state’s economy. The group, however, appealed for greater inclusion, requesting expanded scholarship opportunities and a “family meeting” with the governor to deepen collaboration.
The NYO concluded with a firm warning to detractors: “We are resolute in supporting a governor whose leadership has elevated Enugu into a beacon of progress and global recognition. We will not tolerate further misuse of the organization’s name.”
The EXCO and BOT pledged to stand by Governor Mbah through 2027, vowing to champion his vision for a prosperous Nkanu, Enugu, and Nigeria.
