Federal Government Gives New Update On Date For Reopening Of Universities, Other Tertiary Institutions | CABLE REPORTERS

The Federal Government through the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, today, offered new updates on the reopening of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Nwajiuba, speaking today at the daily federal government #COVID19 briefing from the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID, said they have had dialogues with some pressure groups who are asking the government to reopen universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

He pointed out that COVID-19 is still contagious, and that the universities and other tertiary institutions are yet to comply with the compulsory guidelines for institutions.

“We have reviewed responses from about 78 universities already, most of which are private universities who are insistent that they are ready to go.

“From the state-owned universities, we have a 50-50 response and we are working to upscale that and make sure that everybody is actually ready to go,” the Education Minister said.

Minister Nwajiuba, though, indicated positiveness that the tertiary institutions would soon be reopened, but said he would not mention date yet.
