Court Sentences Professor For Electoral Fraud In Favour Of Akpabio | CABLE REPORTERS

 


Peter Ogban, a professor of the University of Calabar,has just been convicted by a High Court in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State on Thursday.


He was sentenced to three years in prison for announcing false election result during the 2019 general elections.


Peter who served as the returning officer in the senatorial election in Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District in 2019, was reported to have doctored the results from Oruk Anam and Etim Ekpo Local Government Areas.


The prosecutor, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, told the court that Prof Ogban manipulated the results of the election to tilt towards the victory of the All Progressives Congress, the APC, and to the detriment Of the opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.


The said election was a race between Current minister of Niger Delta Affairs Godswill Akpabio and his opponent, Sen. Chris Ekpenyong.


Daily Trust reports that Ogban has recounted how the election results were tampered with to Favour the APC and Godswill Akpabio.


After a tough race, Chris Ekpenyong has emerged as winner of the election.


Although after a series of legal battle lost by Godswill Akapabio, he eventually withdrew from the legal battle after his appointment as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
