A political interest group, Ije Awele Enugu East Senatorial Zone has affirmed their stand to throw full support on the already established zoning system in Enugu state declaring that the Enugu East Senatorial zone should be given opportunity to carry on the torch of peace and development in the state.

The convener of group, Hon. Mike Ogbueke, the SPA to Enugu State Governor on Agriculture, Stressed this during a groups conversation held yesterday at Universal Hotel Enugu, he maintained that the group seeks to ensure a peaceful transition of power in the state come 2023.


“ Since the beginning of the fourth republic, Enugu state has been known as one of the safest states in Nigeria. Enugu is the headquarters of Ndigbo and have been adjudged to be cosmopolitan in nature.”


“Enugu is known for mature politics of consultations, negotiations and discussions. This is time to uphold that virtue, for which Enugu is known.”


“There is a standing arrangement, a gentleman’s agreement that recognizes the need for the governorship position in Enugu to be rotational and so the seal of authority of leadership in Enugu state has been going in a perfect circle among the three senatorial zones in Enugu. Therefore, the need for this perfect cycle to be continued and maintained cannot be over emphasized.”


“It is time for the Enugu East Senatorial Zone to be given the opportunity to carry on the torch of peace and development of this our great state.” - Hon. Ogbuekwe



CABLE REPORTERS gathered that the SPA emphasised that Enugu East Senatorial zone has credible individuals with audible antecedents who will make a great Governor, urging the people of other zones to join in upholding the agreement which according to him have ensued peace and development in the state


“We have credible candidates, who have shown over the years, their capacity and antecedents in various fields of endeavor. They are more than capable to pilot the affairs of our state. Therefore, the IJE AWELE ENUGU EAST ZONE 2023 wants in addition to development and growth, a continuity in the peace and progress all the past leaders of our state have toiled and worked so hard to build.”


“We call on our brothers from other Senatorial Zones to join us in protecting the interest of the Enugu East Senatorial Zone as it is a commitment to the interest of the entire people of Enugu. “


“Fair play is the duty of every player involved and we should all join hands to push for equity and progress. We are all committed to the growth and development of Enugu state so all hands must be on deck to ensure peaceful transition of governance to a governor from Enugu East Senatorial Zone.”


“We want continued peace and progress in Enugu, we want continued development and growth in Enugu, we want togetherness and fair play in the state of Enugu, we want the IJE AWELE ENUGU EAST SENATORIAL ZONE 2023 for the people of Enugu East.”- Hon. Ogbuekwe concluded.


The Keynote speaker at the event, Bishop Chinedu Nwoye who also doubles as The SPA to the Governor on Inter-Religious Affairs, stated that the Enugu experience peaceful transfer of power in 2015 through the gentleman agreement, and such is also expected in 2023, he also called on people to register  for the Permanent Voters Card as it is their only power to make decisions.

“Ugwuanyi’s emergence in 2015 was peaceful, his departure will be more peaceful and the slogan ‘it will end in praise’ is about 2023.”

“Equilibrium is all we seek. When it was time for other zones to produce the Governor, there was an understanding, it won’t get to our time and it becomes problematic.”

“We need to show wisdom and reach out to our brothers in the other zones to support us to produce the next Governor.”

We also need a young and energetic leader that will provide leadership and change the narrative of our people. We need to produce a Governor that will perform like our governor and even beyond.” Bishop Nwoye.

On His Part, the SPA on Information, Bar. Steve Oruruo charged the people to continue to support the administration of Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi assuring them that “when it's time, the governor will tell us where we are going and he is a just man who believe in equity fairness and justice”
