JUST IN: Bandits bomb Kaduna-Abuja train with over 1,000 passengers aboard

The incident came two days after armed gangs invaded Kaduna International Airport, killing aviation workers and leaving many others wounded.

Fidet Okhiria, MD of Nigeria Railway Corporation, confirmed the development, saying efforts are underway to obtain further information about it.

We could not immediately confirm casualties. The railway has become one of the busiest in the country since it was opened in 2016 amidst expectation it would provide a safer alternative to people plying the route.

However, several attacks linked to armed gangs have occurred repeated along the route, even as the government issued regular assurances to citizens about their safety.

  1. I passed through this same corridor in company of my client two days after my 70th birthday 21st March Lagos to Kaduna by air, Kaduna to Abuja by rail, we took airport taxi to the venue of our interview with Alhaji Akiko Mohammed, 1st Chairman of NIA & NICOM. I posted my experience on my FB page. There was no indication that an attack would be carried ou less than one week later. I only noticed that while we awaited the train from Kaduna to Abuja at 2.30 pm a group of six suspicious young men walked out of the waiting hall. I told my client I suspect these young men to be capable of doing harm. Anyway that's history now. God saved us.
