Gov. Ikpeazu appreciates the Nigerian Army, as State holds Armed Forces Remembrance Day Church Service | CABLE REPORTERS

 


Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has appreciated the efforts of the Nigerian Army including the fallen heroes in protecting the territorial integrity of the Nation. 


Speaking during an interdenominational Church Service as part of activities marking this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance celebration held at the St Peter’s Presbyterian Church, Umuahia, Gov. Ikpeazu also reiterated his administration’s commitment to make the lives of members of the Nigerian Legion better to continue to give them a sense of belonging.


Dr Ikpeazu who was represented by his deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, assured that their efforts will not be in vain, pointing out that the need to continue to appreciate members of the Nigerian Army cannot be overemphasized especially in addressing series of insecurities bedeviling the Nation such as Armed banditry, kidnapping, Armed robbery, insurgency and other forms of criminality as well as their roles in the development of the Country.


He used the forum to applaud the Church for all their support and collaboration with the present administration and implored for more prayers for the State and Nation and advised Nigerians to vote according to their conscience so that credible leaders that will change the fortunes of the Nation will emerge.


In his sermon titled “The Encounter That Changes Lives”, the Moderator, St Peter’s Presbyterian Church, Umuahia, The RT Rev Chinedu Okoroafor who reminded all that it takes an encounter with God to counter the agenda of the devil, noted that when leaders at various levels encounter the Supreme Divinity, the stagnation, sufferings and fortunes of the Nation will be positively changed and called for better welfare packages for the families of the nation’s fallen heroes.


In a vote of thanks, the Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs, Deaconess Nna Rose Urenta said the Church Service is part of week long activities mapped out to celebrate members of the Nigerian Armed Forces in appreciation of their sacrifices and solicits for concerted prayers in their continued task of providing peace and security across the Nation.


The Service which featured special prayers for members of the Nigerian Army, nation’s fallen heroes, State and Nation attracted the presence of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate, Prof Uche Ikonne represented by his running mate, Barr. Okey Igwe, Top Government Officials, members of the State Judiciary and Abia State Security Council including the Commander 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Brig. Gen. A.M Adetuyi, the Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Abia State Chapter and South East, Commander Ambrose Nnabugwu, the Clergy and other notable personalities
