Like Minds for PNM, a political movement in Enugu State, has called on security agencies to investigate the intimidation, harassment, and election-related violence during the recent senatorial election in Enugu North Senatorial Zone.
The group made the call in a statement issued while congratulating Chief Ikeji Asogwa on his emergence as the elected Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District.
Describing the outcome as a reflection of popular support, the group said Asogwa’s victory demonstrated “the confidence, trust, and overwhelming support reposed in him by the good people of Enugu North.”
It further commended the senator-elect for what it described as his “unwavering dedication to the welfare of the people and his consistent commitment to the growth, development, and advancement of Enugu North Senatorial Zone.”
However, while celebrating the election outcome, the group expressed concern over alleged incidents that it said occurred during the exercise.
According to the statement, “we express concern over reports of alleged acts of intimidation and harassment at certain polling units during the election.”
The group alleged that unauthorized armed personnel and political thugs were involved in activities capable of undermining the credibility of the process.
“We are particularly disturbed by reports that unauthorized armed personnel and political thugs were involved in activities capable of undermining the credibility of the electoral process,” the statement said.
Like Minds for PNM also raised concern over what it described as an alleged attack on its Zonal Coordinator, Hon. Enyinna Franklin, who serves as Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources in Enugu State by the PDP Senatorial candidate, Nestor Ezeme, who personally led thugs to the polling stations of the commissioner.
“We also note with serious concern the alleged attack on our Zonal Coordinator, Hon. Enyinna Franklin,” the group stated.
Calling for official action, the group urged security institutions to investigate the allegations and ensure accountability.
“We therefore call on the relevant security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police, the Inspector-General of Police, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and other relevant law enforcement authorities, to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into these allegations,” the statement added.
The group further stated that “any person found culpable should be made to face the full weight of the law.”
Beyond the allegations, Like Minds for PNM commended Franklin for what it described as his conduct during the electoral process.
The statement noted that the commissioner demonstrated “exemplary leadership, peaceful disposition, and steadfast commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law.”
The group also acknowledged the efforts of its coordinators, unit officers, and supporters across Enugu North, describing their contributions as instrumental to the success of the movement.
It extended appreciation to residents of the senatorial zone for what it described as their overwhelming support and trust, adding that public confidence would continue to inspire its commitment to service and governance.
Reaffirming its broader position, the group pledged continued commitment to “peace, democracy, unity, and the continued progress and prosperity” of Enugu State.
The statement was jointly signed by Hon. Enyinna Franklin, Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources and Leader of Enugu North Zone, Like Minds for PNM; Engr. Ben-Collins Ndu, Commissioner for Water Resources and Leader of Enugu West Zone; Hon. Edeani M. Edeani, Liaison Officer, South East Development Commission and Leader of Enugu East Zone; and Nwogbo Emeka Nelson, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor and Youth Leader of Like Minds for PNM.
