Gov. Ugwuanyi Welcomes Haitian Home-Coming As Special Delegations Set To Collaborate In Agricultural Sector | CABLE REPORTERS

The Igbo race is well known for its strong affinity to her root. No matter how long an Igbo aborigine sojourns in a foreign land, the strong bond to his root will always call him home. These strong affinities to one ancestral root among the Igbo tribe is seen in the Igbo adage that say "obiara ije nwe ula".

The factuality of this adage was once again proven by the home-coming mission of a 10-man delegation from the Republic of Haiti, led by Senator Moise Jean Charles and former Haiti Ambassador to the UK, Amb. Pillard Jean Robert on Friday 21st of January, 2022 to Enugu State Government to trace their ancestral origin to Igbo land.

The delegation on a home-coming mission to the State, the historical capital of Igboland to perform conventional Igbo rituals of traditional naming and name adoption after they traced their roots to Igboland.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Simon Ortuanya warmly received them on behalf of the Governor of the State, His Excellency; Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and expresssed the  readiness of the State Government to partner and collaborate with the Haiti Government as relations in diaspora through exchange programs as their historic visits marks a new beginning for all.

The leader of the delegation and Presidential aspirant of the Republic of Haiti, Senator Moise appreciated the State Government for the stately reception and recounted how Enugu State and Haiti shared many things in common. He revealed that Enugu has five letters as Haiti and the meaning of Enugu and Haiti are cities on the Hills.

On the back of this event, was a side meeting by the Special Adviser on Agriculture to the Governor of Enugu State, Hon. Mike Ogbuekwe with the Haiti delegation team, where discussions on possible areas of collaboration between Haiti and Enugu State in the areas of agriculture were held, further interaction ensued on how to explore areas of restorative agriculture to tackle the erosion prone mountain areas of Haiti using improved palm seedlings, cashew and avocado, thus creating jobs, cash flow as well as a green revolution in Haiti. He made it known to them that Gov. Ugwuanyi’s technically sound team will be on the ground to work with our relations in the diaspora to set up a new kind of foreign exchange program.

Besides, the agricultural collaborative gains of this historical home-coming to Enugu State, the State is also poised to enjoy cultural tourism from our relations in Haiti whom the door has been opened to trace their ancestral origin thereby promoting our tourism industry and increasing our revenue generation base.

Gov. Ugwuanyi's administration through this diasporic collaboration with the Haiti Government has not only raised the profile bar of Enugu State as a tourist destination but also a knowledge hub of human capital that is ready to help Nations in harnessing their natural endowment and provide solutions to their developmental challenges. Above all, it is the administration consistent drive to maintain and sustain a peaceful atmosphere in Enugu State which had made the State the most peaceful in Nigeria. Little wonder, Haiti choose to visit Enugu State out of all the Igbo states to trace their ancestral origin. Great Kudos to Gov. Ugwuanyi's administration for this giant step to open up Enugu State as a tourist destination and a centre for diasporic cultural rebirth.
