The South East Development Commission (SEDC), in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President, the Ministry of Regional Development, and South East state governments, has announced plans to host the South East Vision 2050 (SEV2050) Stakeholder Forum from February 3 to February 6, 2026, in Enugu State.
The four-day forum, themed “Charting a Shared Path to Sustainable Prosperity for South East Nigeria,” will convene key political leaders, policymakers, development partners, traditional authorities, private sector actors, civil society groups, and youth representatives from across the region. The event will hold daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the International Convention Centre, Enugu, and is expected to shape a long-term development roadmap for the South East.
High-level participation is anticipated, including the Vice President of Nigeria, governors of the South East states, senior federal officials, and prominent regional leaders. The forum is designed to serve as an inclusive platform for dialogue on economic transformation, infrastructure development, industrialization, human capital development, and regional integration.
Speaking ahead of the forum, the Enugu State Liaison Officer of the South East Development Commission, Hon. Edeani M. Edeani, said preparations were already at an advanced stage, emphasizing that Enugu is fully ready to host delegates from across the country and beyond. He attributed the state’s readiness largely to the ongoing efforts of the Enugu State Government under Dr. Peter Mbah to reposition the state as a regional hub for investment, policy dialogue, and development planning.
“We are fully prepared for this big event, both in terms of logistics and coordination,” Hon. Edeani said. “Enugu has been deliberately repositioned to host high-level regional engagements of this nature. The improvements in infrastructure, the newlybuilt International conference center, the improved tech-led security architecture, and institutional coordination under Governor Peter Mbah’s administration have made it possible for the state to confidently host an event of this scale.”
According to him, the venue, security arrangements, accommodation facilities, and inter-agency collaboration are all in place to ensure a successful and impactful stakeholder forum.
Hon. Edeani further noted that the forum reflects a renewed commitment by the federal government and South East leaders to pursue coordinated, long-term development planning rather than fragmented and short-term interventions.
“South East Vision 2050 is about moving from rhetoric to strategy,” he said. “This forum will allow stakeholders to collectively define priorities, align regional interests, and build consensus around a shared development agenda that is sustainable, inclusive, and forward-looking.”
The SEV2050 framework aims to reposition the South East as a competitive economic region by leveraging its strong entrepreneurial culture, human capital base, and strategic geographic location. Organizers say outcomes from the stakeholder forum will feed directly into policy frameworks and implementation plans coordinated by the SEDC in partnership with state and federal institutions.
Stakeholders and members of the public have been encouraged to register in advance to participate in the forum. Registration details are available via the official SEDC platform.
